Hockey Development Mission & Agendas

The Chaska Hockey Development Committee (HDC) consists of six hockey-knowledgeable members at large selected by the Board with representation from various levels for a one year commitment with the opportunity to stay on a second year. The Chaska Boys and Girls High School hockey coaches are also members of this committee. Board-appointed committee members for 2006-07 are: Al Velasco (chair), Frank Mork, John Rodeheffer, Pat Wise, John Schliesman and Gene Billadeau

Mission— The Hockey Development Committee exists to:

Create and facilitate program structure by level
Create and facilitate player development plans by level including skills needed and how these skills should be developed
Organize player and goalie clinics
Facilitate monthly mandatory coaches meetings
Create coach development plans by level
Provide one-on-one coaching assistance to coaches as needed
Provide coaching clinics as needed
Facilitate communication of development concerns and issues to the Board
Complete post-season program review including evaluations by players and parents
Complete post-season coach evaluations and communicate evaluation feedback to coaches
Attract, review and recommend coaching candidates to the Board
Provide Tryout Committee representation
Provide Coach Selection Committee representation

Committee received presentation on existing tryout process and procedures
Discussions of incremental modifications to tryout process
Coaching candidate updates

July 10, 2006: Coach selection, 06-07 tryout process and development programs

Interview status of returning coaches and update of new coach candidates
Review of potential parent head coach candidates
Discussion of potential improvements to the tryout process
Review of potential tryout evaluators
Committee elected liaisons for tryout and development proposals
Development:
- Dryland program proposal requested
- Goaltender development program proposal reviewed and accepted by HDC
- Coach Development program proposal requested

June 26, 2006: Coach selection and development programs

Returning coach assets were reviewed
Coach selection committee representative were finalized
Tryout committee representatives were finalized
Bylaw language changes were discussed
The following development proposals were explored:
- Goaltender Training Program
- Master Skill Coaches
- Coach Development Resources
- In-season and/or off-season dryland training programs

June 5, 2006: Initial HDC formation and coach selection

The CCHA president reviewed the role and responsibilities of the committee

The committee elected Al Velasco as chairman

The committee reviewed coach selection criteria and appointed a liaison

Coach evaluation forms from 05-06 were reviewed and discussed

The committee discussed and enacted methods to attract coaching candidates for open positions

Submission deadlines were established for coaching applications at the “A” level

Team projections were reported and discussed
